'Fruiting Bodies' A Free Art Exhibition by Yasmine Rana
Yasmine Rana is a traditional artist from London, UK. She was born with cerebral palsy and has lived over half of her life with other chronic illnesses as well. These impact not only the subject matter of her work, but also how she paints, making each piece a unique puzzle to solve around her limitations. This will be her 3rd solo exhibition.
'Fruiting Bodies' explores the beauty and grief of living with disabilities through the symbolic visual language of nature. From fragile moths precariously perched upon a flower, to fungi and flora sprouting from eggs cradled in a nest, each piece is imbued with layers of symbolism and intricate detail. Much like disabilities and other health conditions, what other people see often just scratches the surface in the ways in which they impact us; in the context of fungi, the fruiting body is often the part we see, like a mushroom, while the mycelium (the "roots" of the fungus) remain hidden below. 'Fruiting Bodies' invites you to take a look deeper beyond the surface, for a unique and moving experience.
